Usafi Interior Design Kenya paint benefits/why use paint
- Perfect your home appeal- One of the easiest ways to improve your home appeal with dramatic results is to give the exterior a fresh coat of paint. A house that shows signs of wear from age or weather can overshadow even your best efforts to maintain beautiful landscaping. If repainting your entire house is not in your budget, consider painting the trim and gutters for a subtle yet noticeable facelift.
- Protects your surfaces- Besides covering up unsightly stains and marks, paint can actually protect your walls from damage. Both your interior and exterior walls are subject to the detrimental effects of weather and smoke. Give your home a healthy makeover with new paint to help control the progression of wear and tear.
- Property value adding- A smart, cost-effective solution to raising the value of your home is to paint your exterior and interior walls. You will not only give your home a renewed look, but also impress prospective buyers who tour your house. While painting your walls may seem like a minor cosmetic repair, you are likely to make a major investment.
- Complement Your Design Theme- Your home environment should be a space that makes you feel comfortable and safe. While furniture is one of the most practical factors in contributing to a comfortable setting, the color of your walls is also influential. Consider how different colors and tones can create a calm, warm, or energetic ambiance.
Usafi Interior Design Steps to Painting a Room
Step 1 – Clean walls.
Remove dust, dirt, and grease spots (which can ruin a smooth finish) with water, a little mild dishwashing detergent, and a cellulose sponge. Rinse walls with clean water to remove the soap residue.
Step 2 – Tape the trim, window, and doorframes
Use painter’s blue tape, which can be applied up to a week ahead. Remove tape immediately after painting, before the wall dries, so you do not peel off any paint with it.
Step 3 – Prime the walls.
It is a common myth that walls that have been painted many times do not need to be primed. In fact, primer helps maximize the sheen and coverage of paint and gives the finish coat a uniform appearance.
Step 4 – Brush where you can’t roll.
Brush on paint around trim and in the corners of walls, where your roller cannot reach, with a two-inch angled brush. Extend out two to three inches from windows, doors, and moldings.
Step 5 – Use the W technique.
For efficiency, start in the corner of a wall and roll on a three-by-three-foot W pattern, then fill it in without lifting the roller. Continue in sections until you’re finished. Paint one wall at a time.
Step 6 – Paint the trim.
When the walls are completely dry, tape where the trim meets the wall. Paint the moldings and the door and window frames with a two-inch angled brush.
